ifilm series actress talks of her life in ‘Gathering’

‘Prophet Joseph’ actress unveils her past in national talk show.

Here’s another report in a series by ifilm, on the popular talk show ‘The Gathering’, aired by the channel; this time the program hosts Elham Hamidi, whom you might recall from ‘Prophet Joseph’ and ‘Passion to Fly’, popular series aired on ifilm.

The program started with a question about fashion, to which, and to other questions, Hamidi answered. Read excerpts from the talk show here.

To respond to your question about me being reticent, I’ve got to say I’m not. That’s mainly because of the series and films I’ve played a role in. I’m always offered serious, positive roles, and whenever I wanted to change the rule of the game, they said, ‘That role isn’t yours’.

I personally enjoy comedy, and would like to play in one; guess I’ll do that better than my serious roles. Modiri, the host, who is himself a popular director, expressed agreement with that idea, saying the cinema industry in Iran would rather use the same actor in a previously-tested role, which would make the choice easier. He also suggested Hamidi to play a role in one of his future films, and she gave him the go ahead.

She then talked about how she started her career, which will be the subject of our next installment.

Hamidi was born September 30, 1977, in the capital Tehran. Her father had some experience in the arena of acting, which gave her the chance of going on stage at the age of seven.

In addition to accounting which was her major in university, she passed some acting courses, in line with her aspirations to become an actress.

She has starred in many movies and TV Series including ‘So close so Far Away’ (2004), ‘City of Chaos’ (2005), ‘Vertigo’ (2006), ‘Mahya’ (2007), ‘The Kingdom of Solomon the Prophet’ (2008), ‘Prophet Joseph’ (2008), ‘Waves and Cliffs’ (2010), ‘Tabriz in Fog’ (2010) and ‘Passion to Fly’ (2011).

She won the Crystal Simorgh for the lead actress in the 31st Fajr Film Festival for ‘A Cradle for Mother’ in 2012, while she had already got two nominations for Best Actress in a Supporting Role award at the same festival in 2004 and 2005.

She also won the Golden Statue at the Iran Cinema Celebration for the movie ‘So Close So Far Away’ in 2005.

She has so far went on the big screen in 17 movies, and also appeared on the small screen in 16 series and two telefilms.

In near future, there will be more on the popular, star-centered talk show, ‘Gathering’, and what the guests, including celebrities, artists, actors, cineastes and athletes have told the nation, about the backstage and their private lives.
